Per Reiner is, jointly, an Authorised Swedish Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and former corporate patent counsel with over 20 years’ IP experience. He provides business-specific, primarily patent-related IP consulting. As such he is a trusted client counsellor with a deep understanding of the business aspects of IP. Per’s work is mainly within the fields of physics, energy generation and distribution, power electronics, telecommunications and mechanics.
He frequently represents clients at oral proceedings before the Opposition Division and Boards of Appeal at the European Patent Office (EPO). Per is thoroughly familiar with the different activities of a Patent Counsel, such as advising on IP strategies. He is also familiar with more hands-on activities, such as competitor screening, prior art search, freedom to operate investigations and IP due diligence.
He has wide experience in drafting, filing and prosecuting national, international and European patent applications. He has also represented clients before the EPO, the Swedish Patent Office and the Swedish Court of Patent Appeals, in opposition and appeal proceedings. In addition, Per has experience in infringement and revocation proceedings.

In 2023, Per successfully obtained the University degree on Patent Litigation in Europe at the International Center of Intellectual Property Studies, University of Strasbourg (France). Per is now registered as a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

Key Experience

Per gained a thorough knowledge of power generation and power transmission technologies while working in ABB’s patent department. In particular, he was involved in projects developing HVDC technologies used, inter alia, in offshore wind farms. Before this, as an R&D engineer he worked in and lead projects at ABB Switchgear, developing high voltage switchgear equipment, in particular high voltage circuit breakers.
Today, he frequently works in close cooperation with R&D project groups to identify patentable inventions. In this respect, his background as both an R&D Engineer and corporate patent counsel at ABB is very useful.
