Patrick Abbott

Patrick is a patent attorney and intellectual property consultant with over a decade of experience in innovation and litigation strategy. He holds a B. Sc. in Biology from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Juris Doctor with honors from Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law with an additional certificate in intellectual property law. He certified as an attorney-at-law in 2013 and began working in high-stakes pharmaceutical patent litigation at an AmLaw 100 firm.

Patrick certified as a US patent attorney by passing the USPTO Patent Bar in 2014 while practicing law in Chicago. His cases there often focused on life sciences or medical device disputes and involved issues of patent validity, infringement, market entry, antitrust, and contract disputes. He certified in Alternative Dispute Resolution and has experience in mediations and arbitration, volunteered as pro bono counsel for cases involving copyright, artist rights, and immigration law, and has experience with matters involving environmental justice, sustainability, and civil liberties. Whether at work or at home, he enjoys learning about new technologies and finding creative solutions to complex problems.

He joined Acapo Onsagers after moving to Bergen and enjoys working with a broad range of clients across various technological fields. He also enjoys finding ways to communicate complicated subjects to diverse audiences, whether they are clients, patent examiners, judges, or students. Patrick is also qualifying as a European Patent Attorney has completed papers F, M1, and M2 so far as an EQE candidate.
