Carl Petter holds a master’s degree in space physics from the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) and the University of Oslo (UiO) from 2002, and has worked on the interaction between the solar wind and Earth’s magnetic field. He has a broad academic background in mathematics, physics, and philosophy.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Carl Petter worked with development aid, focusing on logistics and the operation of rolling stock. In the 2000s, he gained extensive experience in Arctic logistics and research. He has worked for the Norwegian Polar Institute and the Norwegian Mapping Authority’s departments in Svalbard, including serving as head of the Mapping Authority’s geodetic observatory in Ny-Ålesund.

Since 2013, Carl Petter has worked as a patent advisor and has contributed to ensuring that Norwegian companies and inventors protect their competitive advantages in the best possible way. His technical expertise covers a wide range of fields: telecommunications, optics, physical processes, aquaculture, surgical/medical equipment, offshore, pumps, cyclones, mechanics, sports equipment, and tools.
